Wednesday, April 22

9:00 a.m.-10:00 a.m. Conference registration and breakfast at Southbound Bagel.

10:00 a.m. -12:30 p.m.  Testimonials

Our conference will kick off at with testimonials about the highs and lows of tackling the restoration of a historic place.  Larry Albert, Representative Toby Barker, Sarah Newton, Rick Taylor and Abby Thaxton will share their knowledge about getting from the big idea to the big day and all the pitfalls that come in between.

12:30 – 2:00 p.m.  Excursion to the USO Club,  Hattiesburg’s African American Military History Museum

Enjoy a peanut butter and jelly sandwich with a side of history as the Hattiesburg Tourism Commission hosts us for lunch at the only remaining USO constructed especially for African American soldiers still in use today.

2:00-4:00 p.m.              Mentoring Sessions

Participants will have the opportunity to work one-on-one with preservation mentors who have been in the trenches and lived to preserve another day.

6:00-8:00 p.m.  Pecha Kucha Hattiesburg and the 23rd Annual Mississippi Heritage Trust Annual Membership Meeting

Raise a glass to another year of making preservation happen in Mississippi!  After a short business meeting, settle in and ponder the meaning of place with Mike Carroll, Amber Lombardo, Matthew McLaughlin, Latoya Norman and Sheila Varnado.

Thursday, April 23

8:00 – 9:00 a.m.  Bagels for breakfast

9:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m.      Preservation Case Studies

After hearing the stories behind Hattiesburg’s many preservation victories, conference-goes will sharpen their pencils and put these concepts into practice as they examine several preservation projects around the state.  These case studies will be used to prepare a “preservation toolkit” to help other would-be developers achieve success.

12:00-2:00 p.m. Linger

After a delicious lunch at Bianchi’s Pizza, we will take a leisurely stroll through downtown Hattiesburg with Web Heidelberg as our guide, ending with a cool libation on the porch of The Bay, Hattiesburg’s fabulous new B&B.
